The Fundación Contemporánea Culture Observatory has published the results of its analysis of the cultural panorama in our country. The San Sebastian Film Festival has been listed as the fifth most important cultural event at the end of 2015.

The San Sebastian Festival occupies this fifth position along with the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza behind the Museo del Prado, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, the Teatro Real and Matadero Madrid. Furthermore, the Festival continues to occupy first place among the seasonal cultural initiatives, those whose activity does not run all year round; it is also the first cultural institution in the Basque Country.

The Fundación Contemporánea has the mission of contributing to professional development of the cultural sector in Spain. In this respect, its first initiative in 2009 was to launch the Observatory of Culture, an instrument to take the pulse of the cultural sector and create a series of indicators for its analysis, thanks to questions asked of a panel of experts in the different cultural disciplines. This report appraises cultural activity in autonomous communities and cities in Spain, and the most important cultural institutions and events of the year.
